It was
predicted to rain between noon till 2pm. I didn’t want to experience what
happened yesterday. Trusted my gut and took a nap as soon as we got home from
the farmer’s market. Of course I ended up being stood up. The rain went elsewhere
and by default, we started our journey towards Hampden. Thirty minutes of slow strolling and we were
embraced by a lively fair, aptly named the HONfest. A stranger told me that HON
stands for “Honey” in short. Looking at the women with hairstyles shaped like
beehives, I’d say I was amidst walking, talking cotton candies. And that sort
of mirage/fantasy/sights put a smile on my face.

Hampden
is such a quirky place I don’t know where to start. You’ve got shops that sell
vintage items, international goods, and other wares that classifies as “interesting”.
It is charming in a way, the kind of place you would go back to experience “eclectic”.
More importantly, the festival was worth the exercise. I got myself a
bottomless stainless steel mug with all the soda I can drink for the day. That
alone cost me fifteen bucks, but I was left a lovely souvenir and full bladder to
remember HONfest by. I gave away two bucks for some Malaysian curry puff, made
by Thai vendors. It made my day!

The day
ended with delicious Vietnamese spring rolls for dinner. SoraK seemed pleased
overall, despite the mix of fish sauce and lime was something she had never
tried before. I can tell, watching her going through seven rolls on her own,
which is itself an implied compliment. Nothing makes a chef happier, that she
enjoyed her meal and left the plates clean.
