I said I had a bizarre week right? The broken blind seemed to be a foreshadowing
for the tragedy that struck on Tuesday night. You see, my roommate left for
Michigan that morning in the midst of bad weather. The sky and its severe case
of dandruff put me in a rather difficult position. I was heading out to the
post office to deliver some mails, and the winds picked up fast. Blew me out of
the bus downtown, but I managed to do what I needed to do. Collected two store
cards (Walgreens & Rite Aid), and bought eight rolls of paper towels for
four dollars!
At minus fourteen Celcius outside, I say I did
great. Once I got home at 2pm, the outside world looked like a Winter
Wonderland theme park.
Here things get jarring. I had a moment of terror
and sadness that night. Around 9pm, I had the sudden urge to ride the elevator
down to the mailroom. But there was a knock at the door. Cops. Their business?
A neighbor was found dead inside his room (for more than a week). There was
some chatter in the hallway. Other neighbors flushed out from their rooms, and for
the first time we talked. The cops took his body out into the elevator and they
disappeared almost as quickly as they came.
Eventually we retired into our respective homes.
There were some scary thoughts, but above that I felt grief. He lived alone and
left the physical world alone. Us neighbors hardly even know we each existed on
the same floor. The same thing can happen to anyone of us. Before I went to
sleep, I told myself that I won’t ever want to end my life that way.
Everything in life,
Vonnie S.
