Funny
story. She was referred to me by a friend. I wasn’t expecting the move-in date
to be the very next day. But she was desperate (at least she sounded so to me
on the phone), and of all days it had to be final’s week. Well, I am rarely the
type who says no. I had no idea who she was except that she’s from India and a
medical student.
Five
things I about ShravaniN and what I learned:
1)
Hang Up the Dang Phone Already!
- I have NEVER in my life met someone who spends a good 60% of their wake time talking on the phone. Alright, I may be exaggerating on ‘wake time’ but the data is real if it’s based on the hours she spends with me. Yes, I did my observation homework. Think I’m just being whiny, eh? Well, you should try turning on the radio to a foreign language channel (say Russian) and have it talk your ears off. I don’t know if it’s because I have yet to get use to staying with someone after all the alone time during the past year and a half, or that it’s the shared space (meaning that if we were to live inside a two bedroom apartment, chances are I would have not been this bothered by her phone chats).

Lesson
learned: Always, always take your phone conversations elsewhere. Be sensitive
to those around you.
2)
Near Zero Street Smarts
- She has the brains of a medical student alright. You should have seen her telling me about eating right and staying healthy. That aside, she’s completely hopeless when it comes to dealing with decisions and living matters. My grocery shopping time has increased by 30 minutes because she can never decide what brand of bread to buy or how many onions to get. Oh yes, since her arrival, I have close to ten items burnt because she doesn’t observe the stove. I le gasped at one point when she asked me “why is everything in this house plastic?” No, not everything is plastic and yet you burn them anyway.

Lesson
learned: Nothing really, if anything it’s all about patience testing.
