On Saturday, us three (Davion, Ika and I) were in for a treat. It was the Video Games Live at the Istana Budaya. Much have been hyped about this symphonic concert, including a walk through by Ika herself since she had been to one in 2009 at WMU's Miller Auditorium. I, on the other hand, prepared no expectations. Whether I end up loving or hating VGL, it didn't matter as much because the experience determines its worth, then again just RM102 for a night of music and memories is definitely worth the drive.
Before we get into the good portion, Ika caused a short stir, getting lost for a whole hour and thiry. Davion and I had to find her because we couldn't get her on track (via phone). Dad was scratching his head too, and could only offer to wait it out while we go get her. It was a good thing she was found in her car right in front of the BHP petrol station at Taman Bukit Kuchai, panicking a lil and prompting me to get in. Once all nerves were washed out, we got into Kuro for a quick speed towards KL city.
I must say Istana Budaya has a decent cafetaria, clean and reasonably priced. Two packets of nasi lemak, one fried chicken, and a bottle of mineral water cost me eight bucks. Davion ate five packets himself and with his trusty wife (a big ass water bottle), spent only six bucks. Ika preferred a curry puff and a sugary donut for her dinner. Waninoko joined us shortly after, choosing to eat a packet herself. We chatted a great deal, laughed a whole lot and parted at 7.30pm to enter the hall.
No expectations either when it came to the number of people I bumped into that night; Allen, Victor (& gang), YukiR, SkyF, YuanC, RachelH (& bf), SamP, and Zed were just some of the few attending who spotted me. I became somewhat a deer walking into the city, very much noticeable since I can hardly spot these people on my own. I need an eye sight check. You don't say, RachelH was just a row below where I was seated. She chose to take my picture and mms me, captioning it as "do you know this person?" I practically laughed at the text amidst the Assassin Creed 2's intro music.
VGL is a good fun event to go to with friends who share similar love for video games in general. I mean, Davion was tapping away, singing his lungs out to ol' Frogger or "Still Alive" from Portal. You don't see that every day now. What saved VGL for me tho is the Pokemon medley. I'm sure, even you can recite the Team Rocket motto by heart. True enough, thank you VGL for the memories.
