“Yvonne ar, I think right…my computer got virus.”
The uncles and aunties of Rio who may be plotting to make my
weekend miserable, were in fact temporary students of mine trying to make sense
of Illustrator. Most of them were there because their company made it
compulsory for them to be trained in Adobe, while other reasons include for
personal development and learning new set of skills. I made it clear to them
that I was no expert, but can get by with designing posters and name cards. It
gave them much confidence after looking at my portfolio; most of them were
works that I’ve delved in the past.

So the “virus” cry emerged because I asked them to play
around with the shape builder icon and told them to create stars, see if they
can find the “virus”. After 15 minutes, an uncle shot his arm up and waved
frantically for my attention. I applauded him and hence, laughter ensued
because he managed to infect half the class. Boy, do those stars look stick
thin!
Out of the twenty giddy individuals, one is a thirteen year
old, who clearly was placed there by his mother. He was acting cold at first,
working on his own, and ignoring the class syllabus. I checked on him from time
to time, observing his talent at creating this 3D cheeseburger. I put him on
the limelight and I think he did blush at the compliments. The kid, JustinW,
was too advance for this AI class. But Sunday was all about CS and he seemed
lost at that. Phew, but I admit, kid’s got talent.
Reviews: 4.5 stars!
