Q: Awwhhh park you lah!!

I've learned that it is impossible to make someone love you.
All you can do is to become someone who can be loved.
The decision is rested upon them.
I've learned that no matter how much I care, some people just don't return the favor.
And that, my friend, it's not the end of the world.

Thank you KaviS. for your generous two 1/2 hours on Skype just to make me feel better. Appreciate it.

Your ex-roomie,

Q: Be a bigger person, forgive them and wish them bountiful happiness!

Going for Kam Heong crab tonight! I am so ready to conquer this crustacean. It's going to be de...wait for it...licious!

My word, I am so disappointed at some of these people. Don't they realize they are holding my future in their hands?! What were they thinking? It seems the only thing I can do is to suck it up and save what remains possible for me. Kicking the box sounds like so much fun right now...

Q: Lei meh si ka zan?

Found this buried in the cabinet. A letter I addressed to myself when I was 13 years old. It must have been an awkward moment and after a decade, I thought it was lost forever. I laughed at the word choices and sentence structures, but I really want to let my young self know that I am proud of her.

Dear 23 year old Yvonne Sing,

In ten years time, I want you to read this and remember what you were at thirteen; the cutest thing in the world (your friends and daddy can tell you that), you had ambitions and many good friends.

You were scared of life and at times, of what other people thought about you and you did let many things put you down. You get nervous for school and pretended to fall sick twice to avoid PJK. Pn. Punitha is a very nice teacher to have believed you for saying that.

You thought your friends were the best people in the world and that you can rely on them no matter what. But you worried for your friendship, something feels bad and once, you cried at night because you don’t know what to do.

You don’t want people to know. So you lived your life carefree, meeting people and making them happy. You never liked making decisions, and you feel best in your own world alone.

Whether you are a doctor like you wanted or an author like you dreamed to be, or just a business woman working for money, I hope you enjoy what you are doing. Whether by 23 years old, you are still single or have a good boyfriend who cares for you as much as you care for him, I want you to be happy. (I hope he is kind and caring and likes horses too.)

Remember me, I will try my best in Saujana, I will make many friends forever, I will be hardworking, I will not care about what people say, I will improve a lot, and I will be who I want to be.

I hope mummy, daddy, and Sean are together and happy like one big family. I love them a lot and I hope you do too. Mummy can be fierce at times, I am scared of her but learn to get along like normal please.

I hope you are proud of what you hope to or have achieved. I hope you love your life.

From,
13 year old Yvonne Sing

Q: wheres the DOG?!

Spider o spider, aku dah lama tahan your eccentric behavior. One minute you added a mole onto Natsu, and another minute you leaped onto my arms. The way you just refuse to leave me alone is getting on my nerves, as though I have the patience to entertain you.

See this magazine? Now I hate to sully its newly bound cover, but you're giving me no choice. On the count of three, it works perfectly as a guillotine sledgehammer, so I'd recommend that you not test it and move to more friendlier environment.

Oh, is that your answer, by jumping on my bed. You're asking for it...

Thank you,
Vonnie S.

Q: Sial, this Paikea you're talking, is not about a "bad boy" right?

Mamak night brought us together as we tackled a very difficult topic – friends with benefits. Not beating the dead horse here (eek!), this topic ain’t about getting sexual, mind you. On a note of caution, I should have opened the topic as “making friends for benefits”, or perhaps “to be friends to earn benefits”, whichever rings snowbells to your ears.

A: “Pfft, if you are friends with him/her just because you want something, now that’s selfish.”

B: “I disagree. We humans have desires and these desires are a form of motivation that drives us to seek reconciliation to the problem.”

C: “I have to agree with that. But, sometimes, I think it is exceptional. For instance, I made friend with this guy who did not have any friends out of kindness. Is that fulfilling my desire?”

D: “As a living being, all we want is companionship and a sense of belonging. So I do believe that to an extent we seek benefits, and by any means it is not a selfish act, but a form of mutual benefaction. ”

B: “Thing is, “benefits” are iffy to define. And when I mean “benefits” it encompasses the tangible and intangible, making it an infinite number of possibilities. I could want love, or time, or some understanding, that’s why I made friends with you. So, that friend with no friend, you are sourcing an outlet to practice goodwill and he/she fulfills it. ”

C: “Yea, but I wasn’t seeking to prove my kindness or anything like that.”

D: “But you felt good about it, right? When you made friends with him/her…”

C: “Of course what! Who doesn’t?”

B: “Then that settles it lah! That’s a form of benefit too.”

A: *loudly slurps on teh ais* Owh, now I get it. *grins*

Q: Eating ice cream makes me cough, kay?

He's of the colour of the nutmeg. And of the heat of the ginger.... he is pure air and fire; and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him, but only in patient stillness while his rider mounts him; he is indeed a horse, and all other jades you may call beasts.
~William Shakespeare, Henry V

Ain't they the prettiest thing in the world?
